Headquartered in Madison , Wisconsin , PLANET LLC began operations in 1995 under the name Planet Products as a spin-off
company of Orbital Technologies Corporation. PLANET was formed to focus on the commercial implementation of technologies originally
developed by ORBITEC, with the goal to make viable high-value products from aerospace research, returning profits and royalties to
fund further product development.
In 2003, PLANET changed its name to signify an expansion into commercial technology development from sources beyond just
ORBITEC, including academia and private companies, as well as its first product in full scale manufacturing. This new era of
development included the acquisition of Hypercosm Inc., a past partner with ORBITEC on NASA 3D training development. In 2005
PLANET established Hypercosm LLC as a separate division focusing on 3D visualization tools and services for aerospace, defense,
architecture and education. This success was followed by the Hypercosm Medical Group in 2006.
PLANET’s first product, the PedAlert™ limb load monitor, has been sold to the physical therapy and rehabilitation
market for over ten years. PLANET now has a portfolio of products on the market including custom LED lighting systems, Space
Garden™, Biomass Production System for Education, and JSC-1A Lunar Regolith Simulant. Recent government contracts include
SBIR Phase I and Phase II projects from the U.S. Navy and NASA for 3D simulation development. PLANET also recently completed a
3D on-line tour of the Great Lakes Science and Education Center.
PLANET is a member of the Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium, and its employees are active in many professional and volunteer
organizations, including the American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics, FIRST Lego League, and the American Telemedicine
Association. |
